Residents Calendar Contest

My certificate that I received recently.

A nice silver frame with "Guilty Dog" picture inside.

Front of the Calendar.

The month of May!

Robert Phillips, age 71, is a resident of Covenant Health & Rehab of Vicksburg in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Mr. Phillips has been at Covenant Health & Rehab for less than a year and started painting after his stroke as an outlet to express himself.  This picture is titled "Guilty Dog" because the had done something he should not have done and is looking at his mother with guilty eyes.

Covenant Health & Rehab of Vicksburg is a 120 bed nursing home at 2850 Porters Chapel Road in Vicksburg, Mississippi.  For more information about the facility, call 601-638-9211.

The Mississippi Health Care Association (MHCA) and the Mississippi Health Care Foundation (MHCF) would like to extend a special thank you to all of the residents who shared their artwork for the 2014 calendar.  The artists featured in this calendar live in nursing homes all across the state, from the Gulf Coast to north Mississippi.  This is a small showcase of the talent of our nursing home residents, and we hope you enjoy their creativity.

Proceeds from the sale of this calendar benefit MHCF, a tax-exempt, non-profit organization started in late 2005 by the Board of MHCA.  The goal of MHCF is to improve the quality of life for residents of Mississippi nursing homes by fulfilling request for medical and personal needs and Make-a-Memory requests.  In addition, MHCF provides scholarships for further education of nursing home staff.

Thank you for buying a calendar to support MHCF, and we sincerely hope you enjoy the wonderful artwork featured in this year's calendar.

My Paintings While In Nursing Home

I have been painting a lot since I have been in the nursing home to get rehab for my legs.  I have Parkinson's Disease with other health issues and I tend to fall down a lot.  My wife Marian has been taken care of me but now she is having to have shoulder surgery soon and I will be staying another month so she can recuperate. I hope you enjoy what I have painted and if you do please leave a comment or two.  Thanks!

Boys Town Hall of History

My classmate, Melvin Picraux, sent me this video of Jim Flowers taking you through the Boys Town Hall of History.  When I returned with my wife, Marian, for my 40th class reunion, we toured the Boys Town Hall of History.  This brings back a lot of memories of our trip to Boys Town.  I graduated from there in the Class of 1961.  If you are ever in the area, please stop by and tour the history of my Alma Mater, Boys Town.

The painting above of "Guilty Dog" will be published in the Mississippi Health Care Foundation calendar for calendar 2014.  It will be featured for the month of May with a short biography and picture of me.  I was so excited to find this out recently and appreciate Covenant Health & Rehab of Vicksburg for encouraging me to participate in this project while I was getting rehabilitated. Again, my thanks to all involved.

Below is a copy of the letter I received from the MS Health Care Foundation.
